our practice sessions are rooted in the comprehensive approach of the pilates method, using the exercises and equipment as a system, the way Joseph Pilates envisioned it

At The Praxis Room, we guide our students through a deliberate progression: discovering the foundation of the work, exploring the intermediate system, and building the physical confidence required for the adventure of the complete Classical Method.

We cultivate an environment designed for great success at every stage of your practice. We honour the lineage and teachings of the Pilates Elders by adhering to a singular golden rule: we teach the body in front of us. No two bodies—and no two days—are ever the same.

Private practice Sessions

The cornerstone of Classical Pilates is individualized instruction. In a private session, the full spectrum of the classical apparatus—Reformer, Cadillac, Chairs, Barrels, and minor apparatus—is curated specifically for your structural needs, biomechanics, and long-term movement goals.

Whether recovering from injury, addressing structural imbalances, or refining high-performance athleticism, Private Sessions offer the highest level of personal assessment and acceleration.

the contrology mat practice

Our Mat programming is a deliberate progression through Joseph Pilates’ original method. We begin by establishing a profound core control, joint stability, and dynamic alignment through fundamental movement patterns. From this baseline, we systematically build your strength and physical endurance, progressing toward the complete, vigorous floe of the original 34 classical exercises as outlined in Return to Life.

Offered in Private Practice and all our 3 Level of Practice

Cohort A: Mon & Wed 9:30am

Cohort B: not offered at the moment

Cohort C: Tue 4:30pm & Thu 5:30pm

the comprehensive system

True structural change requires a systematic approach. Rather than relying on a single piece of equipment, our 55-minute private or small group sessions utilize the comprehensive classical system to assess and refine your movement.

The first 40 minutes are dedicated to a fluid interchange of the Mat and Reformer - balancing the internal control while performing the classical order of exercises. Based on how your body responds and what our Teachers observe during this part, the next 10 minutes are highly individualized, utilizing specific auxiliary apparatus to address your unique structural imbalances. We reserve the final 5 minutes for targeted integration utilizing small props, ensuring your nervous system and body alignment are fully reset before you walm out the door.

Offred in Private Practice and all our 3 Level of Practice.

the apparatus practice sessions

In the Classical System, the auxiliary apparatus is designed specifically to support and elevate your foundational work. This highly targeted session utilizes one or two specific pieces of equipment - such as Wunda Chair, Cadillac/Tower, or Barrels - to address the unique structural imbalances holding you back. By isolating specific mechanics, we refine your technique, resolve movement faults, and directly improve your execution of the Classical Mat and Reformer protocols.

Offered in Private Practice and all our 3 Levels of Practice.

the contrology practice

Designed to cultivate true movement autonomy, this session operates in a traditional, self-directed “open studio” format. Guided by your personal practice journal, you will move through your individualized classical order at your own pace. While you work independently, a teacher is always present on the floor to supervise the room, offering precise tactile and verbal feedback, movement corrections, and ensuring your safety.

  • Pre-requisite: To ensure foundational readiness and apparatus safety, students must have completed at least one 8-week registered program (Private or Group) prior to entering the Contrology Practice.

Discovery

The Classical Foundation

This is the entry point into your Pilates literacy.

Discovery is the foundational tier of our curriculum, designed for those new to the Classical Method or returning to fundamentals, Here, we build the architecture of your practice. You will learn the language of Joseph Pilates’ system, focusing on breath, finding your critical internal connections, and understanding the precise alignment through movement. Working primarily across the Mat and Reformer, this level is entirely about establishing unshakeable stability so you can move with great confidence.

Focus: Alignment, Stability, Breath, Awareness

Exploration

The Classical Intermediate

Translating Theory into Dynamic Action

Once your foundational connections are secure, we move into Exploration. This is the heart of the Classical Method - where the majority of your lifelong practice will live. We introduce the concept of “flow”, minimizing the rest between exercises (using Transitions) to build deep internal stamina and rhythm. You will explore the profound concept of two-way stretch, working across the complete system of apparatus to challenge your body’s structural integrity. This is where you truly embody the meaning of Praxis - moving with intention, control, and developing functional strength for your everyday life.

Focus: Flow, Seamless Transitions, Two-Way Stretch, and Stamina

Adventure

Cristina has a deep understanding of how the body moves and adapts each session accordingly. Beyond her teaching skill, she's kind, caring, and genuinely funny! Sessions with her are always something to look forward to, not just get through."

    — Heather P.

  •  "Cristina makes every Pilates session something to look forward to. Her expertise and understanding of how our bodies move are clear in every class. Cristina is always up for a laugh and her warmth makes the work feel less like work. Three years in and we're still learning from her."

  • “I’ve worked with Cristina for the past six years. She’s helped me improve the symmetry of my movements and control over my body. I’ve also seen huge improvements to my posture.  These gains have translated to my other training (weightlifting, speed skating, etc.). Doing Pilates with Cristina has been a game-changer for my athletic career. “

    —Victoria G.

  • “I've had the good fortune to be in Cristina's capable hands for a number of years now. Her classes are challenging and interesting, with a dose of humour tossed in (just when you think you can't do anymore). Cristina comes to class with a plan, but is also open to a variety of modifications that any body may need. Whether you have been practising Pilates for a long time, or you’re new to this amazing form of mind/body connection, I highly recommend Cristina, you will not regret it.”

    — Tracy S.

  • “Cristina has a deep understanding of the complexities of human movement, and a passion for helping people towards their unique goals. Practicing Pilates with Cristina has helped me improve my movement mechanics on and off the mat/reformer. She has helped me through back pain, and knee pain, which helped me improve as an athlete, and as a human moving through life. I highly recommend Cristina to everyone who wants to start or continue their Pilates journey.”

    — Alison D.

  • “I started Pilates as a way to improve my flexibility and improve my posture. Although I was expecting some impact, Cristina far exceeded my expectations and as a high level athlete, this is the best my body has felt in years. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their general strength or just overall physical wellbeing.”
